Building Background Information
"Where the Red Fern Grows"
Monday
We are beginning to read Where the Red Fern Grows so we started by building information. Today, we focused on coonhounds. The students watched the videos below and then wrote a paragraph about what they learned about coonhounds.
Tuesday
We continued today building background information focusing on raccoons. Students were given a KWL chart in which they wrote what they knew about raccoons in the first column, what they wanted to learn about raccoons in the second column, and after reading three articles about raccoons, they filled in the last column with what they learned.
