Text Features Toolbox

Interactive Notebook, p. 46
Click images to enlarge and print.

This will go at the top of the page as something else needs to go under it.

1.  The first template looks pretty blank but it's important to get it right.  Start by cutting out all the pieces on both pages (the rectangle with the dotted line and the toolbox flap on the following page).

2. Color them as shown below in the first photo.  You'll color the bottom portion of the rectangle red as shown.

3.  Next, turn the rectangle over on its face and fold up the red portion from the bottom.  Glue the sides down only to create a pocket.

4.  Fold the handle and the top tab of the toolbox cover down and place dots of glue on this portion only (see photo).

5.  Glue the toolbox cover right above the existing portion in the notebook so that it opens to reveal a pocket.  See example photo notebook (at the top of the page) for finished product.

6.  Now that the toolbox is constructed, cut out all 8 of the nonfiction text feature examples.  Write the definitions on the back of each card using the notes provided.  Place the nonfiction text features inside the toolbox.
